Anushka was first seen as an actor in 2008 in Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi with Shah Rukh Khan. As a screen test for her, she refused to do an unplanned test and instead took the day off to practice. Then she was contracted for three films under the Yash Raj Films banner. She played the young wife of a man who was older in the movie (the same role that Shah Rukh Khan played). The film was hit on the box office and was the second-highest-grossing movie of 2008. Anushka performed alongside Shahid Kapoor, Shahid Kapoor, Vir Das, and Meiyang Chang in the 2010 movie "Badmash Company". The film received mixed praises. Anushka was also seen alongside Ranveer in the film "Band Baaja Baaraat' in which she played the role of a Punjabi middle class woman who set up her own company. It received positive reviews. The Band Baaja Baaraat anushka's three-film contract under Yash Raj Films banner was final.
